This Division is responsible for delivering on the OEB’s consumer protection mandate through the management of codes and rules, addressing consumers’ complaints about regulated companies and acting as a liaison with industry stakeholders. It is also responsible for oversight functions relating to the audit of regulated entities, assessment of utility performance, licensing of energy companies and the OEB’s compliance and enforcement activities.
Brian Hewson joined the Ontario Energy Board in 1991. He was appointed Vice President in November 2016. Prior to his most recent appointment he held the position of Director, Strategic Policy, responsible for developing policy proposals and options for implementing the OEB’s strategic vision for the energy sector, including developing a new regulatory framework focused on performance and planning. Prior to this, as the OEB’s Chief Compliance Officer, Brian developed an integrated compliance program focused on protecting the interests of consumers and ensuring that regulated companies understood and achieved their regulatory obligations. He has also led various taskforces to develop technical codes and standards for the electricity market and electric utility operations.
