Barrie Area Transmission Upgrade

Hydro One Networks Inc.

Hydro One Networks Inc. has applied to the Ontario Energy Board for approval to upgrade two existing transmission lines and two transformer stations, in the Barrie and Innisfil areas.

Hydro One Networks Inc. is asking the Ontario Energy Board for approval to:

  • Replace two 9 kilometre 115 kilovolt single circuit transmission lines that are currently carried on separate towers, with 230 kV double circuit lines, carried on a single tower. The transmission lines and circuits connect Hydro One Networks Inc.’s transformer stations in Barrie and Essa, Ontario.
  • Install new equipment and replace end-of-life equipment at the Essa Transformer Station Upgrade and expand the Barrie Transformer Station
  • Extend the period over which InnPower Corporation can pay its share of the project costs, from 5 years to 15 years
  • Establish an account to track the collection of project costs from InnPower Corporation and any other future customer

Hydro One Networks Inc. states that the proposed facilities are needed to accommodate load growth in the Barrie and Innisfil areas. The project will also replace end-of-life infrastructure at the transformer stations in Barrie and Essa.

Hydro One Networks Inc. is also asking the OEB to approve the form of agreement it offers to landowners to use their land for routing or construction of the proposed facilities.
