Ontario Power Generation Inc. and DNNP LP have applied to set payment amounts for the output from regulated hydroelectric and nuclear generating stations effective January 1, 2027.
Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) has applied to the Ontario Energy Board to set the amount charged for the output of its regulated hydroelectric generating facilities and, with its co-applicant DNNP LP, to set the amount charged for the output of its regulated nuclear generating facilities, including the Darlington New Nuclear Program facilities. The application covers the five-year period beginning January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2031. In its application, OPG has calculated that the monthly bill for a typical residential customer using 750 kWh of electricity per month would increase by the following amounts, if approved:
| 2027 | 2028 | 2029 | 2030 | 2031 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $7.94 | $2.45 | $1.37 | $0.74 | $4.67 |
Other customers, including businesses, would be affected as well.
The payment amounts include the costs of refurbishing Units 5-8 at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station and constructing the Darlington New Nuclear Program facilities during the five-year period.
The application also includes requests for the following approvals, amongst others:
- Of custom frameworks to set the hydroelectric and nuclear payment amounts
- To change OPG’s capital structure and establish DNNP LP’s capital structure
- To dispose of the December 31, 2024, balances of certain deferral and variance accounts
- To establish new deferral and variance accounts, including new accounts for the Darlington New Nuclear Program facilities
- Of an annual process to recover interest amounts associated with capital costs for refurbishing Pickering B and constructing the Darlington New Nuclear Program facilities

Submit a letter of comment
You can submit a letter of comment that will be considered by the panel deciding the application. Unless the notice states otherwise, your letter of comment will be accepted until the record of the proceeding is closed (which usually occurs with the filing of the applicant’s final reply argument). However, you are encouraged to submit your letter as early in the process as you can. Depending on timing of receipt of letters of comment, the applicant will typically provide a respond to the issues raised in those letters. Your letter will be provided directly to the panel of Commissioners who will be deciding whether the application is approved. The panel will consider your comments in reaching their decision.
