This year’s winter disconnection ban has ended

There’s help for lower-income consumers who may need it.

Every year, licensed electricity distributors are banned from disconnecting their residential customers for non-payment during the winter, from November 15 to April 30. Now that the winter disconnection ban has ended, we are reminding customers that they are responsible for paying their energy bills on time.

We know that this can be a struggle for some. If a customer is unable to pay their energy bills, the important thing to do is to stay in contact with their utility. Customers can ask to set up a payment plan with their utility and find out if they qualify for financial assistance.

Special programs are available in Ontario to help low-income energy consumers. Learn more at oeb.ca/billhelp
