Michael Janigan

Michael Janigan was first appointed as a Commissioner in April 2017. Mr. Janigan has had experience in private law practice and served a term as City and Regional Councillor in Ottawa. Later, as Executive Director and General Counsel of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC), Mr. Janigan represented vulnerable consumer interests before regulatory tribunals and commissions, including the Ontario Energy Board and the Canadian Radio and Television Commission. As well, in that capacity, he supervised and authored government-funded studies associated with consumer interests such as telecommunications, consumer protection, transportation, banking and competition law. With the financial assistance of the Law Society of Ontario, Mr. Janigan developed and taught a university -credited course in Consumer Rights in the Marketplace. He has also served as a member and later chair of the Board of Directors of The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO). 

Mr. Janigan holds a Bachelor of Arts in science and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario as well as a Master of Laws from the University of London. He is a member of the Bar of the Law Society of Ontario and the State Bar of California.
