Details

The Board initiated a consultation process to examine the issue of cost responsibility associated with the connection of generation and load facilities to electricity transmission systems. The Board decided to examine its cost responsibility policies for a variety of reasons, including the large number of connections that were expected to be required for generation facilities using renewable sources of energy.

The Board has adopted final amendments to the Transmission System Code that address issues associated with “enabler facilities” that connect renewable generation facilities to the transmission grid, including how those facilities are identified and the allocation of cost responsibility for them. The amendments, set out in the Board’s Notice of Amendment to a Code, come into force today.

The Board notified participants in the Distributed Generation – Rates and Connection, Rate Design for Electricity Distributors, and Transmission Connection Cost Responsibility Review consultations of its intention to launch a consultation on distribution connection cost responsibility in 2008 and of the implications of this new initiative for the scope of the existing consultations.
