Cheryl is in her second term as Mayor of the Township of Hornepayne; the first women and the first Indigenous person to be mayor for the community. Cheryl has always called Northern Ontario home. Cheryl studied at the University of Windsor and Athabasca University in commerce, while focusing on communication. 

She has spent 20 years working for Canadian National Railway (CN Rail) as a conductor, locomotive engineer and currently a member of the management team in the capacity of Company Officer - Locomotive Engineer Training and Compliance within the Eastern Canada Team

Cheryl is the mother of three grown children. She is an avid volunteer with 28 years of experience serving as a town councillor, school board trustee, library board chair, hospital board member and Royal Canadian Legion Youth Education chair. While working as both mayor and a manager for CN Rail, she also serves as the president of the Northern Ontario Women’s Association and president for the Ontario Good Roads Association.
