Centralized Capacity Information Map

Every day, Ontario’s electricity grid keeps millions of homes and businesses running. As new neighborhoods emerge, businesses expand, and more clean energy facilities come online, the demand for reliable, affordable, and secure electricity continues to grow.

To support this growth and enable smarter planning, the Ontario Energy Board has launched the Centralized Capacity Information Map (CCIM) – a powerful tool designed to provide transparent, accessible data about the province’s electrical grid capacity for both load and Distributed Energy Resource connections.

Launch the CCIM

Why CCIM

Connecting new projects to the grid isn’t always straightforward. Sometimes, there simply isn’t enough capacity available, and figuring out where those limits exist can take time and effort. The CCIM helps you get ahead by offering an early view of available grid capacity, so you can:

  • Identify viable locations for new housing developments, businesses, and electric vehicle infrastructure projects.
  • Compare options for industrial or commercial expansion, or renewable energy projects.
  • Access consistent, up-to-date data that reduces uncertainty and accelerates project timelines.

Data is provided by distributors and updated at least every three months, ensuring you have the latest information.

Whether you’re a municipality, developer, investor, or customer, the CCIM gives you insights that make planning easier and more efficient. While it doesn’t replace the need to contact your local distribution company, it provides valuable context before those conversations begin.

Implementation of the CCIM supports the Ontario government’s commitment to enhance access to and share information about electricity system in ways that can help to unlock the value of distributed energy resources, lower barriers to participation and enable smarter planning and investment in our energy infrastructure.
